Redecentralize

We’ve had enough of digital monopolies and surveillance capitalism. We want an alternative world that works for everyone, just like the original intention of the web and net.

We seek a world of open platforms and protocols with real choices of applications and services for people. We care about privacy, transparency and autonomy. Our tools and organisations should fundamentally be accountable and resilient.

Heh.

I should clarify that: you have to do it from your own computer. That’s the point. I tested with an app called Newsfire, but it can be any local RSS reader, web browser, or URL fetcher.

The point is to make a trivial and goofy but hopefully hard-hitting demo of the fact that IP is in fact the P2P protocol we’re looking for (provided it can run without a ton of walls and moats in the way).

Here's the result when I add the feed to feedly, after previous steps (OS = ubuntu) seem successful:

Sorry. No feed found. Please try searching for another url, title or #topic.

I installed liferea and got the success!

Did feedly fail because its a webapp? Or just because it's feeble?

I wrote another post on my own views on decentralization... sort of a partial followup to the previous "I want to believe" one. I'm still working on a technical followup, but this is more of a theoretical one.

(Apologies if this is a double post -- the previous one I sent went out from an old e-mail address that was still in my webmail interface for some reason... shows how often I use webmail. It probably disappeared into the ether.)
