Redecentralize

We’ve had enough of digital monopolies and surveillance capitalism. We want an alternative world that works for everyone, just like the original intention of the web and net.

We seek a world of open platforms and protocols with real choices of applications and services for people. We care about privacy, transparency and autonomy. Our tools and organisations should fundamentally be accountable and resilient.

Is there a date for the February meetup yet?

I'd like to suggest Wednesday 5 February as a provisional date for a
London meetup combining Redecentralize, Spring of Code and TA3M. (TA3M
meetings are usually on the 3rd Monday of the month, but we can worry
about that later!)

Marc Barto, the Spring of Code organiser, has suggested the Centre for
Creative Collaboration (C4CC) in King's Cross as a possible venue.

London redecentralizers, how does that sound?

Cheers,
Michael

Wednesdays are *really* hard for me, and the show of hands at December
seems to suggest that Tuesdays are good for most people.

Might I suggest Tuesday 4th February..?

There was also talk of hosting a meetup at LSE.

Best way to get the date you want is to volunteer to organise.
EOM.

p.s. This is not my way of volunteering.

Hey Nick,

That’s great news, do you have a venue organised as well? If you could let us know the details we can let everyone know.

Thanks

Ross,

Note - I was volunteering to suggest the 4th February. ;-)

Ira mentioned a venue she had in mind. Perhaps it's the same one
Michael mentioned (C4CC)..? Ira..?

Assuming the venue I guess the only other thing to do is sort out
ticket booking.

I can give someone access to the eventbrite pages to get that going (or simply duplicate last event if we are agreed on date!). At the last meetup, Frederik specifically was happy to organise the Feb meetup, can put in touch with person who can book C4CC :)

Booking C4CC will be free. Someone needs to sponsor the beer! I think Malcolm was volunteering... Anyone else? Foods/wine? Or charging for tickets to spend on foods/beer?

I can start a separate thread with specific peoples to organise off list

I'm happy to kick in 20 quid towards beer/wine/snacks - it would be
nice not to charge if possible, so as not to deter broke hackers.

I can volunteer to organise on the 5th, 6th or 7th, but I'm busy on
the 3rd and 4th. Happy for the event to go ahead on those days, of
course, but someone else will have to herd the cats.

Cheers,
Michael

Ross Jones [LibreList] Re: [redecentralize] february meetup 2014-01-31 12:17:35 (7 years 3 mons 25 days 18:10:00 ago)

Because we are organisationally-challenged, and because it is so close to the 4th, we went with the 11th of February at C4CC (http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/63972386)

Still looking for people willing/wanting to do a 5-10 minute, or 20-30 minute talk on the (related) topic of your choice.

Any takers?

Cheers
Ross

At the last meetup, Frederik specifically was happy to organise

:)

Is C4CC free (as in beer)..?

Hello redecentralize,

The registration page for the February meetup is now up.
This month we're doing a mix of lightning talks and longer talks (up to
30 mins). Speakers still wanted.

Well, I did list myself on the GitHub page as the local contact. I'm actually new here, having recently relocated from North Carolina, but as I get a little more into the tech scene I plan to spread around some interest. There is a huge amount of technology stuff here (not quite as much as the Bay up North, but a lot), so I'm sure there will be interested people.

I can start putting out feelers in the Austin area. Should we put together a meetup resource for redecentralize? I think people would respond with more interest if they knew the .org was behind it.

We have the Distributed Systems Enthusiasts (on meetup.com) for a near approximation in the mean-time.
